We regularly organize commemorative bike tours to places in Bremen relevant to Nazi looting, the dates of which are announced in the media and on this website. The next currently planned date is March 15, 2026. The meeting point is at 11 a.m. in front of the »Haus des Reichs« (Rudolf Hilferding-Platz).
Many well-known places in Bremen are closely linked to the robbery of the Jewish population without this being publicly known. These include the Weser Stadium as well as the »Aladin« in Hemelingen. Starting from the new memorial at the Tiefer, which commemorates the Europe-wide robbery of the Jewish population with the involvement of Bremen companies, authorities and private individuals, our commemorative cycle tour leads to some of these places and addresses their respective connections to the Nazi robbery.
Not all of the relevant places can be logistically connected with a single cycle tour, others no longer exist. Nevertheless, it will become clear how many places and social groups profited from the plundering of the Jewish population that preceded the mass murder. The cycle tour takes place as part of the current exhibition »The Missing Segment« in the Bremen Parliament. The bike tour is not only intended to provide information, but also to raise questions on site, in the sense of a collective brainstorming session, about how we want to deal with the legacy of Nazi injustice, both privately and publicly.
Content Notification: As part of the bike tour, insights into National Socialist structures, documents and newspaper articles will be provided and biographies of Jewish persecution will be discussed. CN: #Antisemitism, #NS ideology, #human contempt, #persecution
Klaus-Michael Kuehne has repeatedly declined to address growing evidence of his company’s wartime conduct Link
The exhibition »Between Things« focused on the handling of objects that were expropriated during the National Socialist era or had to be left behind for reasons of flight. Where are all these things today? How do we deal with the legacy of injustice? These are the questions addressed by »Between Things« from artistic, historical and academic perspectives. UMZU, Papenstr. 6, Bremen.
During the 14 days, many visitors informed themselves about »Aryanization« contexts and shared their own thoughts and stories with us. The accompanying call to the exhibition to examine objects for their origin and to reveal concrete clues and traces was very well received. Thank you to all visitors and the shared exchange. Objects such as crockery, decor, pictures, glasses, clocks and furniture were brought to the research kiosk we offered and examined and will now be further researched and deciphered. Many people were moved by the opportunity to begin to clarify the stories behind the items and thus also to reveal the memories and traces of the previous owners’ lives. That is why we will continue the format of the public research kiosk as a Mahnaml project. On the following dates we offer further research help for 2024 in the premises of the Heinrich Böll Foundation Bremen, Carl-Ronning-Straße 9, 28195 Bremen:
Always on Thursdays from 16-19h. On 21.11., 28.11., 5.12., 12.12. and 19.12.2024.
